The area is filled a diverse mix of singles, young families and older residents of different races. There's revitalization going on in almost every one of the community's many pockets.

You'll find more bungalows just north of downtown, in the Liberty-Chestnut district and Norwood Park. In this same direction are the Sunset Cottages, a cluster of homes between Macon Avenue and Charlotte Street built between 1913-20. Charles Parker, architect of the Grove Arcade, designed the homes, which have been honored with numerous awards from the Preservation Society of Asheville & Buncombe County.

Head south to Biltmore Village and you'll find the Cottage District, cozy, smaller homes by Asheville's most famous architect, Richard Sharp Smith, who designed the world-famous Biltmore House and courthouses throughout Western North Carolina.

Other bungalow-rich areas in Asheville include Albemarle Park, Kenilworth (with a smattering of Asian-influenced bungalows) and Oakley. Surrounding Asheville, you'll find concentrations of bungalows in Weaverville, Enka, Canton, Waynesville, Swannanoa, Black Mountain and Montreat.
