As Hurricane Katrina's wrath subsided, many residents faced a difficult choice: Return to New Orleans and rebuild their ruined homes, or relocate to a less vulnerable area.
Such was the dilemma of a New Orleans couple, who had owned a beautiful home in the city, only to lose everything. When they moved to Asheville, this family needed more than a new house: They needed a fresh start.
"My clients had lost everything," said real estate consultant Mary Love, "their furniture, their mementos, and most importantly, their sense of community. I knew we had to find a unique property that would help them transition easily and embrace Asheville as their new home."
Researching properties, Mary found a fully furnished house. While the owners were already considering another offer, it had a 72-hour kick-out provision. Mary advised her clients to counter-offer, and was able to negotiate an excellent price and arrange for a quick close.
"This was more than just a sale for me," said Mary. "This was an opportunity to help a couple learn to hope again."
